Giraffes are fascinating creatures and what’s even better than seeing them at the zoo is having your very own amigurumi giraffe! Luckily, we have found a step-by-step tutorial on how to knit one yourself!

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: light brown, dark brown, yellow, and black (or colors of your choice)
  • Crochet hook
  • Fiberfill for stuffing
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

The Pattern:

To start, you will need to chain 9 stitches using the light brown yarn. Then, starting from the second chain, single crochet all the way to the end of the row. Chain 1 and turn your work. Continue single crocheting for 9 rows (8 stitches in each row), changing colors as necessary to create the giraffe’s body.

Once you have finished the body, it’s time to add the head. Using the dark brown yarn, chain 3 and then single crochet into the second chain from your hook. When you reach the last stitch, single crochet twice into it. Chain 1 and turn your work. Continue adding single crochets to your row, increasing the number of stitches each time by one until you reach 10 stitches. Then, continue single crocheting for 10 more rows before switching back to light brown yarn.

The Face:

Now it’s time to create the face of the giraffe! Using yellow yarn, make a magic circle and 6 single crochets in it. Then, for the next two rounds, make two single crochets in each stitch. For the next round, single crochet in the first stitch, then make two single crochets in the second stitch. Continue alternating between one single crochet and two single crochets until you have 24 stitches in total.

From there, using black yarn, add some details to the face such as the giraffe’s eyes, nostrils, and spots on the fur.

Finishing Touches:

Once you have all the pieces of the giraffe, it’s time to put them together! Sew the head to the body and then add the legs. Finally, stuff your giraffe with fiberfill and sew it shut.
